Galveston Winter Flounder Roundup (plus some specks!)

I'm a week or so behind in getting this up, but I just got the photos to go with the text. This is from Bryan Treadway who organizes the tournaments at Lutes Marine on Chocolate Bayou. He helped organized a flounder roundup last November and has been a big help on the flounder issue.

"Yesterday, myself, along with Courtney Moore a representative for the Sea Center with TPWD and the winner of the Live Flounder Limit on the last November tournament Steve Shelby were able to make it out with guide, Capt. Greg Francis with http://www.saltwaterassault.net . Capt Greg is always on fish in West bay and today he did not disappoint."

"We took 15 Specs (from 15 - 19") and 4 flounder out of West Galveston Bay not far from Chocolate on soft plastics. All fish were kept alive for the Sea Center of Texas. The fish made it safely back to the hatchery with no fatalities as of this morning, according to Courtney. "These fish will contribute to the spawn which should begin in early April.  All of the offspring from these trout and flounder will be stocked into the Galveston Bay complex." she wrote in an email today."

These are the kind of grass roots efforts that are starting to pop up all over the coast. It started on the Sabine complex and is spreading like wildfire. Although the Texas Coastal Bay Teams events might be history, these kind of privately organized round ups can help take up the slack.

Kudos Bryan, Capt. Francis, Steve and Courtney!
