Flounder on floating Rat-L-Traps
Sorry, I haven't posted in the last few days. I have been extremely sick and have basically been lying in bed hurting. Got a cool e-mail from Flounder Revolution reader Danny Gross bringing up some good points about using different kinds of lures to catch flounder and asking some questions I felt would be good to discuss pre-spring run.
Hey Chester,
Hey Chester,
I love your articles and thank you for your passion of the outdoors. I was reading some of your posts on Flounder-Revolution.com and came across your post about catching flounder on corky's and I wanted to send you some pics of flounder my brother caught on floating Rat-L-Traps. He has been catching alot of reds on Rat-L-Traps this year and a couple of flounder decided to join the party.
Also, have you ever caught redfish on spinner baits and do many people in the Sabine area fish for reds this way? My brother swears by it and I caught my first red on a spinner bait a few weeks ago. Anyway enjoy the pics and thanks for everything you do.
Sincerely,
Danny Gross
First off, Danny thanks for the kind words. Your appreciate of the passion and hard work put into my writing is very much appreciated. Floating Rat-L-Traps are made mainly for fishing grass lines and that kind of thing for largemouth bass and thus are perfect to target reds, specks and flounder in grass along the coast. I don't know if it's a go-to flounder lure but I can see how it would produce. On the spinnerbaits, more and more people are starting to use them for reds. My first experience with them was down in Venice, La. and I have used them on several occasions since then. When the Redfish Cup comes through Port Arthur, a number of the top anglers fish spinners and do very well on them. Thanks for the pics!

Reds have a hard time resisting spinners.
Any of you Flounder Revolution readers caught flounder on Rat-L-Traps or other floating lures? Let us know.

I have been fishing rattle traps for a number of years & have caught good numbers of fish including flounder.

I fished out of Rockport last weekend and caught among a lot of other fish, two Flounder on white and silver catch2000.

Cool. Catch 2000s are great trout lures this time of year and makes perfect sense to catch some flatties on them. Do you fish yours on a fluorocarbon leader?

No sir no leader, I use braid and tie them direct to the line. I'll use a leader with a spoon or in clear shallow water on occasion.

When You use Rat L Traps in salt water is it necessary to change out the hooks?

You know most of my Rat-L-Trap fishing has been grabbing them from my bass box and going out to catch reds and specks. I never change out any hooks to stainless or anything for saltwater because if the fish takes the lure I want a chance of it rusting out and the fish surviving. Anyone here fish Traps enough to know the stats on the hooks? Do they make specific saltwater hooks?

I caught two a coupe of weeks ago on a Catch2000, I usually pick one up here or there on a spoon or plastic, but it was a first for me on a suspending bait.
