Online tournament on, some close calls reported!
Our online catch and release flounder tournament is on and while we have had no official entries, we have had some really really close calls. For those of you not familiar with this, each month from March-November we are giving away a flounder replica mount to the angler who catches and releases (with photographic proof) the largest flounder 20 inches or larger.
John M. of League City sent an email saying, "I got one that was literally 19 7/8 inches and there was no way to stretch it so I had to be honest. I'll keep trying."
Cody J. of Beaumont sent in a message saying, "I've caught three over 18 and one just over 19 but no 20 yet. I am determined to get me a replica."
One young angler from Groves sent in a photo of a 21 incher he caught that died in the handling process. He will be getting some cool flounder fishing prizes for his attempt.
Anyway, here's the original post. Now, get out there and get some big flatties!
In an effort to promote the catch and release of the big, genetically superior breeding female flounder, Flounder Revolution is partnering with Texas Fish & Game magazine and Global Fish Mounts to create Fiberglass for Flatfish.
From March-November we will be taking submissions from anglers releasing (or donating to a hatchery through a special event) flounder measuring 20 inches or more.
At the end of each month, the angler who submits the largest released flounder will receive a high quality fiberglass replica of their catch produced by Global Fish Mounts.

Then at the end of the nine-month cycle, the angler who submits the most released flounder measuring 20 inches or more will be our "Flounder Angler of the Year" and receive a special trophy, a feature on your achievement in Texas Fish & Game magazine and prizes worth $1,000.
The rules are available by clicking here but here are a few of them to give you an idea.
#Your catch must be alive when measured, photographed and released.
#Using your digital camera, you must take one photograph showing the fish with ruler and another showing the fish with the angler.
#All submission emails must come with a declaration of release available here.
There's a bunch of other stuff but that should give you the idea. This is a fun way to contribute to conservation and get you an awesome mount of your trophy flounder. Plus, you will be bringing much needed awareness to conserving this amazing fishery.
So, all of you top flounder anglers out there, are you ready? Let's start seeing some shots of big fish come in for the cause!
