A couple of fishing notes...

Last week went flounder fishing in some nasty, milk-chocolate-colored water in Sabine Pass and we caught some small ones. Although the water there and everywhere else in the area at the time was terrible, we went to a dark colored lure (red shad Saltwater Assassin) and slowed the approach down a bit. In that kind of water you need something that throws a good silhouette and that is basically the only time I fish anything dark for flatties. As much as I hate murky water, I REALLY hate clear water.

I mean really clear water which hits my fishing holes three or four times a year when you have three to four foot visibility. When this happens I typically cannot catch a fish. I remember once setting up in front of Willow Bayou on Sabine Lake and working lures in front of a flounder I could see three feet down. It would not even budge. It's a good thing it does not get that clear often. Give me my tea-colored marsh water any day of the week. Forget the Evian clear and Yoohoo-murky conditions.

Also, flounder will bond to new structure quickly. The new riprap in parts of Sabine Pass started holding flounder immediately. So if you have new riprap or docks or any kind of structure in flounder rich areas do not be afraid to target them. They probably hold fish.
