I need your flounder questions...
Greetings!
It has been WAY too long since I posted. I have been traveling a lot and my work at Texas Fish & Game has taken priority. I do this blog and Flounder Revolution on my own time and there hasn't been much of that lately. I am happy to report I have worked out time in the schedule to keep this site going and update more frequently than ever through the fall run.
To kick things off, I would like to start off with a Q&A article.
If you have questions to ask about flounder whether they be about fishing tactics, regulations or biology, please send them asap. I already have a few that came in last week that inspired this idea.
After that the Flounder Revolution Tactics series begin talking about the most up to date tactics for flounder fishing including a special ICAST report. For those of you who do not know ICAST is the largest sportfishing trade show in the world and I found some great gear for our favorite fish.
Incidentally when the temperatures cooled down to the 80s last week and we had overcast skies it almost fell like early fall. I will admit my blood start boiling a bit as I envisioned a cold front blowing through and pushing the flounder out of the marsh and into the passes. It won't be long my friends. It won't be long.
Now, send me your questions.
God bless,
Chester Moore

CHESTER, THIS I MORE OF A COMMENT AS WELL AS A QUESTION. DO YOUR READERS KNOW THAT ROLL-OVER PASS IS ONE OF THE PREMIER SPOTS FOR THE FLOUNDER FALL RUN???

Chester,
When I go fishing, I generally target trout or redfish and not necessarily flounder mainly due to my poor catch record over the years for this specie. Can you describe and possibly send me a picture of the best all around bait and presentation which can work for flounder and trout?

Chester,
It has been a long time since I have fished for flounder in a boat. Could you point me in the right direction as far as where I need to be fishing in Lake Sabine? P.S. I heard the Rob Baileys fish Camp will be opening up soon. Keep that In your thoughts...

It has been increasingly hard to catch the illusive flounder at Sabine Lake this summer. Last week was the slowest I have experienced this summer. My bud and i fished on the Louisiana shore near LNG with no results. Tide was high and current strong. The rock and oyster sheel bank was abounding with bait fish. We caught Sheephead and a Drum. I may have to switch to Mud Minnows and the weights you sent to me. Incidentally, the weights on the wire work exceptionally well over rocks. I am impressed by the few snags while creeping it along the bottom. Thanks for the response when I asked for them.
We may try fishing again this week in the flats near river inlet close to Bailey/s fish camp area. Will report the news, Live from Beaumont.

Chester,
Could you tell me the growth rate of a flounder? And at what size the fish has to be in order to reproduce. I think if you explain this more pepole could see the importance in the release of large fish. Thanks, Bill
P.S. As of now a none gigger, i can tell you that we used to gig 20 plus inch flounder on a steady basis. And had limits of these fish simply because we pass up smaller ones. I no longer gig and know that your data is correct first hand. Also after the years larger fish were few and between.Your move and thoughts are correct, gigging is a threat to this awsome fish.If gigging was never legal the population would defantly be greater.

I choose to keep my name not none. But wanted to make a comment about Georges log. I to used to gig and the number of fish we took per trip was legal. But i can not remember more than 3 or so trips that we didn't limit out on fish. And we did it every chance we got. Chesters thoughts on giggers takeing mostly large fish are absolutely dead on. We would only gig fish 3 pounds are bigger. At the time my friend and i were law abided anglers but hurting our youths chance to enjoy such a fish. I strongly feel if gigging weren't ever legal the fish would be thriving in abundance in all our waterways. So for other fellow giggers give great thought to your next trip you can make a diffrence.
