Lady angler scores second entry in replica program
The flounder replica program is starting to get some traction.
At the Lutes Marine Tournament on Chocolate Bayou organized by Bryan Treadway, angler Roberta Lopis caught the second entry of the Flounder Revolution replica program. The fish measured 20 5/8-inches in length and weighed four pounds. It was donated to Sea Center Texas along with 20 other flounder brought in to the tournament. The fish will be spawned and their offspring released back into the Galveston Bay complex.
"Roberta is an avid redfish angler who does well in the redfish circuit, and generally Redfish is what she targets. So in this case she was tossing a spinner bait that would more than likely be on the end of a bass fisherman's rod. Well she put it on a solid slab, and the fish was caught in Chocolate Bayou, not far from Lutes Marine," Treadway said.
So far this is the only entry for the month of August and with time quickly ticking away there is a good chance she will get this month's replica fish. That is unless one of you goes out and gets a bigger one.
What replica program you ask?
Here's the info from our Replica Program page.
In an effort to promote the catch and release of the big, genetically superior breeding female flounder, Flounder Revolution is partnering with Texas Fish & Game magazine and Global Fish Mounts to create Fiberglass for Flatfish.
From March-November we will be taking submissions from anglers releasing (or donating to hatcheries through special events) flounder measuring 20 inches or more.
At the end of each month, the angler who submits the largest released flounder will receive a high quality fiberglass replica of their catch produced by Global Fish Mounts.
Then at the end of the nine-month cycle, the angler who submits the most released flounder measuring 20 inches or more will be our "Flounder Angler of the Year" and receive a special trophy, a feature on your achievement in Texas Fish & Game magazine and prizes worth $1,000.
Frank Moore caught the big fish of July a 23 7/8-inch behemoth and now we have another quality entry for August.
As the fall run approaches I'd love to see the competition heat up and the awesome anglers of the Texas coast go out and earn them a replica and show the importance of catch-and-release for big flounder. Someone will end up being "Flounder Angler of the Year" and it very well could be you.

Now go out there and catch those big fish!
First you need to check out Roberta's fish...
