HUGE flounder news!
The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) will bring a hatchery truck to Sabine Lake Sat. Oct. 17 for a flounder roundup. I verified this with David Abrego of Sea Center Texas today and have spoken with Jerry Mambretti of TPWD who is helping coordinate the location and facilitate local help. Sea Center is in need of more flounder from the Sabine system for the stocking program.
Flounder Revolution! will be doing the publicity and offering a flounder replica to the largest fish brought in that measures 20 inches or more as a bonus for this tournament. In addition, any fish that size qualifies for "Flounder Angler of the Year" points which you will read more about by reading below.
Look for more details on the roundup here as soon as I get them.
September is shaping up to be a big flounder month as we have had reports of five flounder between 19-20 inches by anglers vying for one of our flounder replicas. In case you are not familiar with this program click here.
This month, the only angler who has caught a 20-inch plus fish is Frank Moore with a 21-1/2 incher caught Monday Sept. 14 in the Sabine Lake area. Frank is our current "Flounder Angler of the Year" leader with two big fish released to produce more of their kind. He could win the replica this month but with as many fish as are being reported anything could happen.
Get out there and catch some of those replica fish. The best fishing of the year lies ahead and one really good trip could put you in the lead for "Flounder Angler of the Year" and win an awesome trophy and $1,000 in fishing tackle.

Congrats to Thomas for that giant that he caught and released. I caught one a little smaller and his fish was larger so he now is in the lead. Go out and do it again brother the more fish caught and released the better. The action is picking up so anglers should start seeing more fish. I encourage all anglers to jump in on this wonderful program. It benefits us all as anglers. This is Frank Moore saying go fish good luck and god bless.

This is to Frank Moore, Frank how is it that you catch so many flounder of giant size. What do you know or do that may be diffrent to other anglers techniques. I would love to know what bait and jig size you use, also what area to you looks like it will have flounder there. Im not asking you to give out your sweet spots,i would just like to be able to see the water through your eyes. I have spoke to you on the water a time or two and have seen numbers of fish you caught. My man how do you do it? Thanks,Cecil

Cecil Here are a few answers to your questions. First i fish way more than the average guy, and try to target main areas and tide movement. Any small marsh cut that has a flow of water is always a good spot.GO out and target a certain area that you belive may have fish, work the area at a distance before gettin in close to the shore. Also take notice of bait in the area that you are fishing. Flounder will hit almost anything if dragged across it's head. But ive seen many days that if you were not throwing a live bait the bite would be little to none. I always try to match my bait live or plastic according to the bait i find in the location im fishing. Flounder at times are extremely picky, they will hit only a certain color or size bait. A few bait choices that i keep on hand are #1 GULP- this bait is probaly the best with the exception of Mud Minnows(any gulp white in color is my first choice) #2 GRUBS&BEETLES- my color selection on these baits are simple GLOW and Pearl I like white baits because most all bait fish have white on there belly. JIGS- I keep alot of diffrent sizes from 1/16 up to Half ounce . This is to me the most important tool in catching Flounder. I know that the price of tackle along with everything else has went up,but you must have strong hooks with sharp points on all your jigs. So spend a extra two bucks and buy the good ones. LIVE BAIT- when i fish live bait my personal first choice is a finger mullet 3 to 4 inchs long.I choose Mullet over Mud Minnows for two reasons. You can usualy catch mullet about any where and i dont have to worry about stopping at a bait store before i go out. LIVE BAIT RIG- I keep it simple i use a jig on the bottom or under a cork depending on where i am fishing at the time. Hook the bait shallow through the head (DO NOT!) hook it through the tail> If you do the fish has a better chance of just holding the bait as you reel it in and you have to wait longer for the hook set as the fish mouths the bait. Also not hooking the bait in the tail will result in fewer fish swallowing the bait. Plus in addition to this all fish attempt to strike a bait at the head.Well Cecil hope this helps you and a few other anglers out,GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!

Chester,Cousin are not my question is to you. Is Frank as good at catching flounder as he makes himself seem? And what are your thoughts on what he wrote to this mans question? Do you agree with it or not and are you his edge on catching fish? David Greeier
