Friday Flounder Update

Greetings flounder fanatics!

A cold front is blowing through the Texas coast right now which has me (and I'm sure you as well) pumped about what it will do for flounder fishing. It should be good and get the fall run officially going.

Got lots of news today....

October Replica Program Entry

First off we have our first replica program entry this month and once again from a lady angler.

Hi Chester!

Well last month, my hubby, Thomas submitted and won the flounderreplica with his 22+ incher.  That was a Galveston Bay flounder.  Thistime it is my turn!!!  This is the biggest flounder I have ever caughtalthough I have caught quite a few.  I have been struggling to breakthe 20" mark and this time I did it!  I am submitting this 20+ for thereplica program, hope it holds up although likely it wont.  She wascaught on a lure in 2 feet of water sitting over a sandy patch.  Ilimited on reds right in the same area.  I walked her back to the boatin my net, took pictures and let her go.  Cool beans!!

Kaylin Barlow

Thanks so much for putting that big, breeding-sized fish back. She's the leader in October now for the program but we still have nearly a whole month left. Anglers get out there and start fishing.

Sabine Roundup next Saturday

Saturday Oct. 17 anglers will get a chance to aid in the conservation of the southern flounder.

Thatis when Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) coastal fisheries officials will hold a special flounder roundup on Lake Sabine. This event will seek live donations of flounder to aid TPWD's stocking program and produce baby flounder to be stocked back into Sabine Lake.

Anglers can stop by and donate live flounder next to Sharky’s Grill at540 South Levee Road on Pleasure Island from around from 8 a.m. until 1p.m.

We need as many people as possible to fish on behalf of flounder atthis event. It is crucial to help with the stocking program, which hasalready helped put fish back into Sabine Lake. All fish brought in tothe event need to be legal-sized.

Keeping flounder alive during the fall is easy. If you have a livewell, simply keep the water circulating and if you are fishing from thebank, an ice chest works great. Simply put in plenty of water, use anaerator or oxygen bottle if you have one and change out water as muchas possible. Flounder are tough and survive well as long as they are not deep hooked.

I will be fishing the first half of Saturday morning and then come into help take collections of flounder and document the event. If youhave any questions email me at cmoore@fishgame.com or call or text409-920-2062.

It is not often we have a chance to make direct contributions toconservation and right now no other species in the Gulf Coast needs thehelp more than paralicthys lethostigma, the southern flounder.

I will be personally donating a replica of their catch to the angler whobrings in the largest flounder through my Flounder Revolution program.Southeast Texas anglers have led the way in flounder conservation andwe have an opportunity here to take it to the next level.

I love thee because giggin's like huntin'
I love thee because your eyes on one side is cute as a button
I love thee because you are fearless like Indiana Jones
I love thee because you have a lot of meat on your bones
I love thee because you think you are such a bad *** layin there all stealthy
I love thee because I need my Omega 3 and my momma said eat'n fish is healthy
I love thee because you are the ultimate bait fish trapper
I love thee because you aren't half mouth, fins, and guts like the "endangered" red snapper
I love thee because you make a yummy seafood dish
I love thee because you don't taste like fish
I love thee winter, spring, fall and summer time
I love thee because thy flesh is divine
I love thee with my favorite ales
I love thee because you have almost no scales
I love thee because you lay there all stupid and I don't have to move quickly
I love thee because your fins are not prickly
I love thee because I can catch you in the rivers, bayous, and bays
I love thee because you are easy to make boneless fillets
I love thee because you lay there and wait
I love thee because to catch you I don't need gas or bait
I love thee because you have the most beautiful brown spotted coat
I love thee most of all because I'm broke, and can't afford a boat.
