Monday Flounder Update: One Roundup down, One to Go

Greetings Flounder Fanatics!

This is OUR time of year with the fall run beginning andlots of activities going on.

Last weekend Bryan Treadway reports his tournament atLutes Marine saw 22 flounder donated to Sea Center Texas to aid with spawningproduction for the Galveston Bay complex.

"Five of those fish were between 19 and 19 7/8-inches. Plus we contributed two trout and a gray snapper which we were reallysurprised to see," Treadway said.

Angler James Robertson caught the big flounder of theevent, a 19 7/16-incher that earns him a replica courtesy of FlounderRevolution. Thanks to Bryan for his efforts in working on behalf offlounder and flounder anglers in the Galveston Bay complex and to all of theanglers who contributed fish.

Sabine Roundup Sat. Oct. 17

Don't forget the Sabine Lake Flounder Roundup is comingthis weekend. This event will seek live donations of flounder to aidTPWD's stocking program and produce baby flounder to be stocked backinto Sabine Lake. Anglers can stop by and donate live flounder next to Sharky’s Grill at 540 South Levee Road on Pleasure Island from around from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

We need as many people as possible to fish on behalf offlounder at this event. It is crucial to help with the stocking program, whichhas already helped put fish back into Sabine Lake. All fish brought in to theevent need to be legal-sized. Keeping flounder alive during the fall is easy. If you have a live well, simply keep the water circulating and if you are fishing from the bank, an ice chest works great. Simply put in plenty of water, use an aerator or oxygen bottle if you have one and change out water as much aspossible.

I will be personally donating a replica of their catch tothe angler who brings in the largest flounder through my Flounder Revolutionprogram. Southeast Texas anglers have led the way in flounderconservation and we have an opportunity here to take it to the next level.

TPWD needs flounder boat

Got an email this morning from my friend Shane Bonnotwith the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department's Sea Center Texas. The CoastalConservation Association gave them a grant to purchase a flounder boat fornight time broodstock collection. I'm attaching the specs for the kind of boat they are needing. They are NOT going to buy a new boat. This is simply a breakdown of the kind of features they would need. They would like a good, quality used boat. If you have any info contact Bonnot atshane.bonnot@tpwd.state.tx.us

Thanks for putting this information out for us. I'd like to clarify to everyone that we are not looking for a brand new boat. Rick Kresta was kind enough to give us a quote for a new boat but I don't think that will be feasible at this point. We are looking for a 18-20' flat bottom (preferably a Weld Craft 1860) with a decent 60-90hp out board. If we are unable to find a boat that is fully rigged for flounder fishing, then we can always send it over to Kresta's and they will do a bang up job rigging it up for us.

Thank you for what you are doing to support the TPWD stock enahncement program and I look forward to seeing everyone at Pleasure Island this weekend to collect some more broodstock.
