Monday Flounder Update: TF&G seeking video comments, nice fish reported
Greetings fellow flounder fanatics!
I hope this finds you ready to enjoy Christmas with your friends and family. Lisa and I will be hanging around here enjoying our little girl Faith's second Christmas here in America and visiting with lots of family and friends.
Revolutionary videos
Well, what did you think of those flounder videos I posted at fishgame.com? Did they give you a better idea of how flounder bite and why we do some of the things we do to catch them?
We are putting together a special comments section in Texas Fish & Game due to all of the feedback we're getting on these exclusive clips. Since you all are the ultimate flounder fans, I thought I would offer you a chance at having your comments in the magazine. Just post them here or email me at cmoore@fishgame.com.
In case you haven't seen the videos click here. Be prepared to be amazed.

Angler of the Year
Over the weekend I had the opportunity to visit with the 2009 Flounder Revolution Angler of the Year Chris Dial. I delivered his replica for November along with his trophy and $1,000 tackle package. It is nice to see younger people into flounder fishing and more importantly into conservation. By the way, he said he plans on having at least an entry a month next year. Now, that's the spirit.

Flounder Revolution Founder Chester Moore with 2009 FR Angler of the Year Chris Dial along with his prize package, trophy and replica earned for catching November's biggest fish. Everything on the couch along with dozens of items in the tote in front of it are part of the winner's package. Thanks to Bomber Saltwater Grade, U.S.A. Custom Rods, Livingston Lures, Mr. Twister, MidCoast Products, Sebile and Pure Fishing among others for their generous donations.
Holdover fish bite is hot!
As usual we have some holdover fish that either haven't made it out to the Gulf yet or will not. The bite has been solid in the Galveston Bay complex and in Sabine Pass, both in areas with access to deep water and also a few shallow, mud bottomed backwater areas. If you see fish with a big swollen ball-like object just past their pectoral fin, keep in mind that is eggs. It is spawn time for these fish and while not all will go out to the Gulf, there will be some that still head that way. I'm making a vow in my fishing for the next couple of weeks to release all egg-laden fish.
By the way, we would all love to see photos of your winter catches, so please email them along with details to cmoore@fishgame.com
As mentioned last week, expect really big things in the next couple of weeks. I have some major announcements to make that will make many of you very happy and that will help reach the Flounder Revolution goals and ideals.

The flounder videos up at fishgame.com are mind blowing. I have always wondered exactly what a flounder does when it hits a finger mullet especially since I use pretty big ones. Now I know. This gives me total confidence in the old "wait 10 seconds" rule.

Thank you for the great look at how flounder bite. Mr. Moore I was always skeptical of your theory of waiting only two seconds with a jig tipped with shrimp but now I can see why that works. Thanks for changing everything about flounder fishing.

The flounder videos you posted are amazing. My husband and I are way into flounder fishing and your videos gave us some views of the fish that will without a doubt help us catch more fish. We cannot await to apply them to the spring run. I know understand why when I drag dead shrimp the fish gulp it right up and when we use the bigger finger mullet they play around with it more. Very interesting and much appreciated.

Chester,
I am an avid flounder fanatic, but even I have never really fished for them after Thanksgiving. What percentage of a bay system's flounder population will stay in the bay all year long, if you know? Do their patterns change in the winter or will they hold up in the same areas as the spring and summer months?
Any help would be appreciated thanks?
Trey

Putting a percentage on it is impossible but there is a significant number of fish.
