Angler of the Year competition heats up!

Greetings fellow flounder fanatics!

Competition for the Flounder Angler of the Year is heating up in a big way.

Over the last week we have received four entries of fish caught, photographed and released measuring 20 inches or more starting off with Jantzen Miller's 20-incher. He's the current leader of our competition with 86.75 inches of flounder donated (four fish), including a monstrous 26-inch 10-pounder. Justin Hawkins is in second place with 40.625.

Last year's winner Chris Dial today turned in a 20.625-incher, while angler Bill Van Horn entered a 20.5 over the weekend. Cuong Nguyen donated a fish that size to Sea Center Texas last week as part of the Lutes Marine tournament, qualifying him for points.

Bill Van Horn also caught his fish in a kayak.

The next 10 weeks will be interesting as we enter the best time of year for big flounder. Anglers are reporting catching lots of nice fish, which give some anecdotal evidence the new regulations are having a positive impact.

Flatfish University Curriculum

Mark your calendar for Sat. Oct. 9 as Flatfish University (TM) takes place at Fishing Tackle Unlimited 12800 Gulf Freeway in Houston. The event is free and will like nothing you have ever attended in regards to flounder. Be the first to take part in this unique educational process. E-mail me at cmooreoutdoors@yahoo.com to let me know if you will be coming. The event takes place 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

At the event there will be 40 limited Flatfish University introductory curriculum packages available for purchase. This includes a special Flatfish University logo binder filled with the following:

#Special curriculum notes for each of the talks and clinics at the event with room for your very own note taking.

#Clippings of archival Chester Moore flounder articles with special hand written notes.

#A special laminated guide sheet to selecting the perfect place to catch GIANT flounder.

#Signed and numbered (by Chester Moore) Flatfish University 8 X 10 commemorating this first event. There will only be 40 available and only with this curriculum. Suitable for framing.

#Exclusive discount coupons for Flounder Revolution ®, F.L.E.X. Fishing ™ and Flatfish University merchandise.

If we receive your order before Sept. 25 we’ll knock $2 off the price so you only pay $12.95.

Order via Paypal at cmooreoutdoors@yahoo.com or send a check to Chester Moore, c/o Moore Outdoors 101 Broad St. Orange, TX  77630. Binders can be picked up the day of the event.

I did a special mail-out offer to the first group of anglers who committed to coming to the event and at this point we only have 31 of the packages left.  I will always send out special offers to those who get on board with our projects early so keep that in mind in the future. And don't forget order before Sept. 25 and get $2 off.

Sabine Flounder Roundup

Next week we will have full details of the Sabine Lake flounder roundup to be held Sat. Oct. 16. This will be your opportunity to contribute directly to flounder conservation. Live flounder donated at the event will be used as breeder fish to help stock Sabine Lake. Expect some really fun Flounder Revolution tie-ins for this important day.

Tech Tip

If a flounder hits your line and starts to slow run off with the bait/lure, let it go. Wait until the fish puts heavy pressure before setting the hook or you are likely to lose the fish.
