Sabine Flounder Roundup Sets Record

Today's Sea Center Texas/Flounder Revolution Sabine Lake Flounder Roundup was a huge success.

Anglers faced tough conditions with a slow flounder bite toughed it out to take in a total of 52 fish. This is a new record in the quest to catch broodstock for Sabine Lake's tanks at Sea Center Texas in Lake Jackson.

Thanks to Shane Bonnot and Sea Center Texas for coming out with their hatchery truck and accepting the donations. Thanks to the Orange County Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) for helping log the catches and sacrificing their time on the water to do so. And most importantly a big thank you goes out to the anglers who spent their valuable free time in pursuit of flatfish on behalf of conservation. You all make me proud to be a flounder fanatic. The following pictures capture the day's events.

Mykal Dougan caught the biggest fish of the day, an 18 1/2-incher that earned her a fiberglass replica of the catch from The Fish Mount Store.

Capt Robby Trahan and Kevin Leger brought in the most fish of the event, 15 to be exact fishing in Louisiana waters. They also caught one of the largest fish of the day, this 18-incher.

Today's crop of flounder were beautifully marked ones. Here a 15-incher goes into the tank.

Scott Bandy fished the Louisiana shoreline of Sabine Lake to bring in this 17-incher. Fishing was tough today.

Anglers were excited to see so many fish going toward helping the flounder stocking program.

By the final weigh-in time lots of anglers had gathered near Sharky's Grill on Pleasure Island.

Angler of the Year Standings

Our Angler of the Year competition is heating up and there are lots of entries coming in. To check out the standings click here. Updates are made virtually the moment I open my inbox and see that an entry has come in.

West Galveston Bay Entry

Speaking of entries, we got a really nice one in today from Mary Helen Donnelly who caught, photographed and released a 22-incher on West Galveston Bay. She attended Flatfish University last weekend and if my memory serves me correctly said she was determined to get an entry in during our brief conversation. Congrats!
