Monday Flounder Update: MONSTER flounder replica, Galveston Roundup and more
Greetings fellow flounder fanatics
I spent the weekend along the Coastal Bend as I had a major event to conduct on behalf of Texas Fish & Game magazine at Academy Sports & Outdoors in Corpus Christi Saturday. It turned out to be a great success and I spent half the day talking with readers asking flounder questions and swapping strategies. Cool!
Friday I dropped by the University of Texas Marine Science Institute (UTMSI) to present them with a replica of the 13-pound, 11 ounce monster flounder that resided there for a couple of years until it died last winter. I had the great pleasure of getting to hold the fish and get a photo with it that is still a hot topic at the seminars and book signings I do.

This amazing fish was 11-ounces heavier than Herbert Endicott's state record from Sabine Lake circa 1976.
Kaiser shipped with fish to Ken Laudadio from The Fish Mount Store who does the replica fish for Flounder Revolution (R). He made a mold of it and produced two copies, one that I have and debuted at the first Flatfish University (TM) event and that will be a part of all future clinics. The other now proudly hangs at UTMSI and is a tribute to the great work they have done on behalf of not only flounder but other important species like snook and ling.

Galveston Roundup Tally
Traded texts and voice mails Sunday with Bryan Treadway and got word the Galveston flounder roundup was a success. Tied in with the monthly Lutes Marine tournament on Chocolate Bayou, the event saw 29 live flounder brought in. That number is impressive considering the brutal winds that hit the region over the weekend. And according to Treadway the average size fish was "very impressive". Congrats again on a job well done taking care of the Galveston complex's flounder broodstock. And also to the folks at Sea Center for continually going out to these events to allow the anglers an opportunity to donate fish and be part of this conservation process.
Finesse Flounder
I am doing a two-part series of finesse flounder fishing for Texas Fish & Game's website, fishgame.com. Check out the first installment by clicking here .
Tech Tip
Instead of throwing away your Gulp! products that get torn up, recycle. Use a jar of Gulp! Alive and put all of your used parts in there. Cut small chunks and use them to tip your jigs, spoons and other flounder lures. It can make a difference.
