Flatfish University
Greetings fellow flounder fanatics!

The spring flounder run is starting to really heat up with anglers starting to report nice fish from Texas and Louisiana.
Saturday I will be teaching Flatfish University's (TM) latest course, Advanced Flounder Strategies and Conservation at Sea Center Texas in Lake Jackson.

This course which has been sold out for nearly two months will delve into high level strategies for catching flounder. As I always say, the beauty of flounder is that during the fall run anyone can catch them but for much of the year it takes someone with skill, patience, focus and the right set of tools. And that is exactly what this course will teach anglers.
Flatfish University (TM) will offer courses several times a year and in a limited availability setting. We only allow 15-25 participants depending on the venue and course. Look for news on an upcoming course to be announced soon.

Tech Tip
Anglers should consider using fluorocarbon line when fishing for flounder in clear water. Nowadays if I can see my lure clearly in two feet of water I use fluorocarbon. My preference is Stren Fluorocast but I am also enjoying Spiderwire Ultracast. When spooling this kind of line on spinning reels make sure that your line comes off the packing spool in the same direction your reel is going (usually clockwise). Usually the sticker on the line spool will face the direction you need to use. If not, adjust accordingly. I have been using Ardent Line Butter Conditioner when I spool any fluorocarbon on my reels. I get a rag and spray it generously with the Line Butter and reel the the line through it as it goes onto the spool. This helps the line lose some of its memory and really helps with casting.

Parting Shot
So far this beast is my best fish of the year. It is always nice to make contact with a super-sized flounder and this catch in particular inspired me to spend much of my year in pursuit of the big ones. The REALLY big ones. Dream big and fish with intensity!

God bless,
