Flounder Revolution (R) is the concept and original project of award-winning outdoors communicator and conservationist Chester Moore. The goal is to fundamentally change the way flounder are viewed
to ensure their conservation for future generations.
Flounder Revolution: Dreams from childhood (fishing dreams of course)
Dreams from childhood (fishing dreams of course)
Greetings fellow flounder fanatics!
I want to start this blog differently than others by asking you a question.
What is it that got you interested in fishing in the first place? What experience motivated you to seek out southern flounder?
If you think back and honestly ask yourself the genesis of your interest in fishing, the source most likely lies in your childhood. I know it does for me.
Two encounters with flounder set me on path that led to the Flounder Revolution (R): one involving inspiration and the other conservation. And there were many moments and people who fanned the flames of a very passionate interest in not only flounder fishing but all outdoors involvements.

Catching a big flounder like Colton Elkins did can literally change a young angler's life. And tapping back into those feelings can change yours.
If you want to truly enjoy your time fishing, go back to your roots. Find out what drove you to fish to begin with and drop all of the baggage you might have obtained along the way. Has fishing become a way to justify yourself among others? Is it a status issue? Is it an escape? Those are all things I have observed time and time again over the years working in this industry.
For me it is of course a business but over the last couple of years I had to step away from the business part while I was fishing and get back to the joy. Seeking that joy is a huge part of the F.L.E.X. Fishing (TM) system I developed and it help transform the way I pursue not only flounder but all other fish in a very positive way.
Enjoy your experiences on the water and connect yourself to those joyful times you had a kid either fishing or daydreaming about it. Many times in life, we let the opinions of others, circumstances or just the (very) wrong philosophy that we should not enjoy things the way we did when were kids get in the way.
Remember to always dream BIG and fish with intensity!
Tech Tip
Flounder anglers frequently ask me when they should go from fishing braid to fluorocarbon line. The concern is they are not reading the water clarity correctly. This is no exact science but here is what I do. If I can see my lure clearly in 1.5 feet of water or greater, I fish with fluorocarbon. If not, I use braid. Intensive study of water clarity as it relates to flounder fishing showed me last year that it can make a big difference.
Family Fishing Clinic
Flounder Revolution (R) will once again be a part of the Texas Fish & Game Family Fishing Clinic. This event will be held Sat. June 25 at Fishing Tackle Unlimited in Houston. Running from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. it will feature a variety of seminars including one on my F.L.E.X. Fishing (TM) system and our flounder friend Bryan Treadway talking on Galveston Fishing Hot Spots. Scott Null will talk on kayak fishing for reds in Galveston and the Galveston Bay Foundation will discuss conserving the resources of the region. My full flounder display of replicas, skulls, diagrams and my "pool cue rod" will be on hand. There will be much more on this in the June edition of Texas Fish & Game and in a future update but I will leave you with this. Anyone who attends my seminar at the event will get in on a unique drawing. We will be giving away a guided bass fishing trip with me and guide Billy Mills on Lake Conroe. The drawing will come only from those in the room at my seminar so get there early.
God bless,
Chester Moore
